About BWM

Bike Walk Mississippi (BWM) is a bicycle and pedestrian advocacy group dedicated to the development, enhancement and promotion of alternative forms of transportation and recreation throughout the state. The Organization seeks to enlist citizens from across the state to promote alternatives to current transportation, to provide a wider choice of recreational activities, and to improve the quality, availability and safety of existing facilities and programs.

Specific Objectives:

  • Increase public awareness regarding non-motorized alternatives to the private automobile.

  • Work with public and private agencies to improve access to and utilization of existing transportation networks by cyclists and pedestrians.

  • Provide input regarding the needs of cyclists and pedestrians during the planning, development and construction of transportation related projects.

  • Work with government officials to promote the safe use of transportation networks by motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

  • To serve as a state level clearinghouse for bicycle educational information, activities and resources.

MDOT

Mississippi Department of Transportation is a key partner in creating and sustaining infrastructure for bicyclists and pedestrians across Mississippi.  Not only do these developments benefit those that walk or bicycle, but also those that are not able to drive for various reasons (%) as well as those that are handicapped and need the additional space for transportation.
