Bike Club learns Bike Safety
http://www.stpatrickhighschool.net/?section=viewStory.cfm&ID=5862 Jim Foster, League Bicycling Instructor and member of the Gulf Coast Bicycle Club, was the guest speaker for the St. Patrick Catholic High School Bicycle Club on November 18, 2009.Club Sponsor Orin Eleuterius and approximately forty five students participated, each with helmet in hand. The emphasis of the meeting was bicycle safety. “Bicycling is fun, freedom, and social,” began Foster, “but everyone must participate in a safety class before joining in any bicycle club ride.” Foster told club members the bicycle must fit the rider and must be properly equipped with safety equipment--brakes, lighting, and reflectors. To demonstrate that helmets are essential, Foster had students practice the proper position for their own helmets. He also showed samples of reflective vests and straps, gloves. He concluded by reminding students that the bicyclist must be responsible for predictably riding with other drivers. Mr. Foster has agreed to provide three more safety classes, each prior to organized club ride. The Club's first ride will be on December 12 on the Ocean Springs Bike Trail. Monday, 7 December 2009
