Bike Walk Mississippi would like to congratulate Oxford, Mississippi for being the first in the state to receive a Bicycle Friendly City designation from the League of American Cyclists. According to the League;
"The Bicycle Friendly Community program is revolutionizing the way communities evaluate their quality of life and transportation network. The League awards this four-year designation to communities that have made impressive, measurable efforts to integrate bicyclists into the community. There are four levels—platinum, gold, silver and bronze—awarded twice each year."
Oxford was awarded a Bronze designation thanks to the dedicated work of those advocates working to make cycling the way to get around in their community.
As president of bike Walk Mississippi, I had the privilege to review Oxford's application. Everyone active in the bicycle and pedestrian movement in Oxford deserves kudos for this huge accomplishment.
