Get your School involved
The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program enables and encourages children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school safely. The program sets out to make walking and bicycling a more appealing transportation option for students in grades kindergarten through eighth, thereby encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age.
Visit our Safe Routes to Schools page for a list of resources to get your school involved! You’ll find some helpful links!
Don’t forget about International Walk to School Day on October 5, 2011! Day! In fact, the entire month of October is International Walk to School Month! Whether you are planning events for October 5, activities throughout the month of October, or kicking off a year-long walk-to-school program like Walking Wednesdays, you will find many helpful resources on the Mississippi specific site: (Event checklist, ideas, sample letters, flyers, press releases and more!) at www.healthyms.com/walktoschool
In the past two years, Mississippi had 50,000 kids participating in Walk to School events in October! Let’s see if we can do it again this year. Walking (and rolling) to school is fun and healthy for kids, their families and the environment. Join us! Enjoy this video from 2010′s International Walk to School Day!
