Q: What exactly does Bike Walk Mississippi do? I’m already a member of another bike club so why should I become a member of Bike Walk MS? I don’t ride regularly but I support a more walkable and bikeable Mississippi, should I join?
A: Bike Walk Mississippi is the only statewide bicycle and pedestrian advocacy group in Mississippi. Please join us and add your voice today! Bike Walk Mississippi exists to be YOUR voice when it comes to improving laws that affect the safety of bicyclists, runners, and pedestrians, we work with elected officials, city planners, engineers and more to improve infrastructure for healthier and more livable communities! We supply citizens, businesses and others with materials and resources that encourage a safer and more bikeable and walkable Mississippi! We are working to make Mississippi a place where obesity is no longer one of our greatest issues but a place that embraced infrastructure that supports biking, walking & running as a way to better our health, our communities, economic development & our quality of life. We bring attention to the need for roads, sidewalks & public transit to supported all transportation options for citizen whether by choic or by need. A Mississippi where children can walk, bike & play safely, where you can walk on completed sidewalks for miles or place where you can simply get on your bike & just ride! Q: Does Bike Walk Mississippi have regular rides?
A: We are an advocacy group so we don’t have regular rides, BUT we do work closely with bike clubs around the state to point you in the right direction if regular riding is what you are looking for. Check out a list of clubs HERE.
Q: Can I get some “Share the Road” stickers, 3 feet stickers, bicycle pins, maps and other materials from BWM?
A: Of course! Bike Walk Mississippi is happy to assist you by sending you all the free materials you need.
Here’s what you need to do: Send an email to: bikewalk[at]bikewalkmississippi[dot]com with the Subject Line: Materials requested. Please include in the body of the email: Your name, your physical address, the quantity you need and the date you need them. * Although we offer materials to ANYONE in the state that needs them, please remember that we are a non-profit organization operating off donations. Q: I’d like to hold a bicycle rodeo to showcase safety for children. How can you help me do this?
A: Hooray! We are glad to assist you get in touch with the right people. You can find a list HERE of Mississippi’s League Certified Instructors who are trained in teaching SMART cycling courses, divided by area of the state. Contact any of these LCI’s to schedule a time for your rodeo or just pick their brain on how to conduct a rodeo on your own. Check our KIDS Section for more!

Q: Do you know of a place where I can find really affordable helmets?A: We don’t endorse brands, but THIS is a site that many in Mississippi have used for bicycle rodeos or other events. They seem to have the most affordable helmets on the market. If you are looking for helmets to purchase locally, check out our list of Bike Shops in MS.
Q: Where can I find the bike clubs in my area so that I can participate in regular rides?
A: Almost every major city in Mississippi has an active bike club you can contact for ride information. Check out our list of bike clubs HERE.
A: While we do not endorse any brand, we have found THIS company can give a you a pretty good idea of rack options.
Q: How do I get “3 Feet/It’s the Law” signs in my city?
A: There are a lot of different ways to get signs in your area. Some options are:
- Take a request to the Board of Supervisors, city council, your neighborhood association, your Mayor and your city engineer. Most will be open to putting up signs. It will also help if you can identify roads where you think the signs should be placed.
- If you know of roads that fall within MDOT’s jurisdiction, please send us an email to bikewalk[at]bikewalkmississippi[dot]org; we are currently working with MDOT to give them a list of most traveled routes statewide and will make sure your suggestions get into the hands of the right people.
