Citizen Organizing: We work at the grass-roots level to teach and empower citizens around the state by providing easy to implement templates for statewide programs on the community level.
Education & Safety: We work to educate motorists, bicyclists and law enforcement officials about Mississippi bicycle safety. We offer free safety templates, videos, posters and other resources for distribution to individuals, groups and organizations to increase bicycle and pedestrian safety statewide.
Technical Assistance: We offer workshops, trainings, conferences and webinars showcasing best practices, success stories and pilot programs focused on equipping professionals with the information and resources they need to create more bikeable and walkable communities.
Advocacy & Public Policy: We work from the "top-down" to lobby Congress & Legislators for to show their support for a more walkable and bike-able state. We advocate for safer streets, sustainable funding for sidewalks, multi-use paths, trails and other supporting infrastructure.
Coalition Building: Our Coalition efforts work to build coalitions statewide for the sake of increased economic development, health and quality of life.

Who are we?
Bike Walk Mississippi is a 501c3 nonprofit, incorporated by public citizens in 1993 when our founders saw the need for a statewide voice to stand up for the rights of bicyclists and pedestrians in Mississippi. Our Board members and supporters live in all parts the state, allowing Bike Walk Mississippi to lead the statewide effort to increase bicycle and pedestrian related access, education, safety, equity and support by advocating for local and statewide programs, policies, safety and infrastructure for all people who walk, run or ride a bicycle in Mississippi, whether they do so by choice or by need. Bike Walk Mississippi's advocacy work has been featured by the League of American Bicyclists, Bicycling Magazine, People for Bikes, America Walks and was awarded the national "Advocacy Organization of the Year" award in 2013 by the Alliance for Biking and Walking. Our efforts have led to Mississippi's increase from #47 to #32 as a nationally ranked Bicycle Friendly State, increased Complete Streets policies across state, the passage of and continued education surrounding Mississippi's 3 foot safe passing law for bicyclists, increased local control of multimodal funds and an increased focus on the needs of low-income and underserved communities.
As a nonprofit, we rely on donations from individuals, businesses and clubs and we hope you will support our work to continue to provide the necessary tools and resources necessary for advocates, municipal leaders, engineers, planners, like-minded organizations and people just like you to create more bike able, walkable and livable communities across the state of Mississippi.
